I agree to join with the Boy Scouts of America in protecting my country's natural beauty and conserving her natural resources.

The Outdoor Code

As an American, I will do my best to -

  • Be clean in my outdoor manners.
I will treat the outdoors as a heritage.
I will take care of it for myself and others
I will keep my trash and garbage out of lakes, streams, fields, woods, and roadways.
  • Be careful with fire.
    I will prevent wildfire.
I will build my fires only where they are appropriate.
When I have finished using a fire, I will make sure it is cold out.
I will leave a clean fire ring, or remove all evidence of my fire.
  • Be considerate in the outdoors.
I will treat public and private property with respect.
I will use low-impact methods of hiking and camping.

and

  • Be conservation minded
I will learn how to practice good conservation of soil, waters, forests, minerals, grasslands, wildlife, and energy.
I will urge others to do the same.

Pack 166 schedules at least two annual Pack camp events. The first is our Fall Outdoor Day which is scheduled in November. This event is set up round robin fashion where the Cubs go from station to station. We set these up so the kids will earn credit towards a beltloop or two. Last year (2002) our boys earned the "languages and culture" loop, "Geology" loop and the "Astronomy" loop. After an afternoon of fun we have our Campfire / Pack meeting. Campfires are magical to the Cubs and their families. We fill ours with skits, stories and songs. Afterwards we break for our Campsites where we tell "Ghost Stories" roast marshmallows and have a good time relaxing and reflecting on the day.

What to bring on our next Camping excursion? Check out the Family Camping page.

For information on planning a campfire I recommend visiting http://www.macscouter.com/Campfire/index.html. You will find tons of material and ideas for a fantastic time.

We also enjoy cooking outdoors. We always have a Dutch oven going with a delicious desert, thanks Christine, or with something for supper or breakfast. For some wonderful Dutch Oven recipes I recommend
